What is WHOIS?

WHOIS is a service that provides publicly available information about a registered domain name. This includes details such as the domain owner’s contact information (registrant, technical, and billing), domain availability, registrar, nameservers, and important dates like registration, last update, and expiration.

ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) requires all domain registrants to keep their contact information accurate and up-to-date to help prevent fraud and identity theft.

Most domain registrars, including Cyber Edge Hosting, allow clients to update their WHOIS contact information directly through their accounts. Please note that changes may take up to 24 hours to appear, as some WHOIS queries are cached.

Some domain registries also offer the ability to hide personal details in the WHOIS database. This feature, commonly called WHOIS Privacy, ID Protection, or Domain Privacy, replaces your personal information with generic contact details from the registrar, registry, or hosting company. At Cyber Edge Hosting, ID Protection is available for $5 per domain per year.
